Going into the second annual Funny Car Chaos Classic with an untested new combination, Randy Meyer didn’t know what to expect out of his A/Fuel Funny Car. The Funny Car combination proved to be more challenging than the Top Alcohol Dragster veteran expected, as the Julie Nataas-driven Randy Meyer Racing A/Fuel Funny Car went up in tire smoke on all three qualifying attempts at the Texas Motorplex.
Despite the rocky start, Meyer is still determined to make the nitro-injected A/Fuel Funny Car a viable option for drivers looking to eventually move up to nitro Funny Car.
“We're not at all discouraged,” Meyer said. “I knew it would be a challenge. I didn't think it would be quite as big of a challenge as it turned out to be to get the car off the starting line. It had nothing to do with the racetrack – it was plenty good. We didn't have enough pieces to do what we needed to do, so we tried to make the best of what we had. We'll be better prepared now that we know the areas we need to work on. We're not giving up. We're just getting started.”
Meyer was impressed by the reception the car received both at the track and online.

“We were hoping for a better performance and to put on a better show for the fans,” Meyer said. “It was amazing how many people came by to check out the car and were intrigued by it. That was really great.”
Meyer, who’s competed in AHRA Pro Comp, IHRA Top Fuel, and NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster over the course of his 40-plus-year racing career, was equally impressed with the Funny Car Chaos series.
“It's the only race I've ever been to where I did really bad and still had a smile on my face,” Meyer laughed. “Every single person there – whether it was a driver, owner, spectator, worker – everybody had a smile on their face. Everybody was happy. It was just a nice, laidback atmosphere.”
Meyer plans to bring the Funny Car back out for testing once there’s a break in the team’s busy NHRA Lucas Oil Series schedule. He also still plans to run the two Nitro Chaos races later this year.
“We're going to do the Nitro Chaos race at Mo-Kan Dragway (July 15-16), we just don't know if we're going to take the Funny Car or the dragster,” Meyer said. “We plan on being there regardless just because it's close to home and we want to continue to support those races. It's a good deal for these smaller venues, and as racers, you get treated really nice with respect. That’s what I liked about it.”
Meyer encourages fans to stay tuned for further developments, as he’s already working on improvements for the car’s next outing.
“We're going to regroup and make some new parts and change stuff on the chassis,” Meyer said. “I want to thank all the people and fans who came out to support us. We'll be back and hopefully we'll be better prepared next time out. Don’t give up on us yet.”

[post_content] => This past weekend, the Kansas-based Randy Meyer Racing Team attended the annual Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Central Region awards ceremony in Kansas City, Missouri. Joining 28 other stars, ranging in ages from 6 years old to over 60, Megan Meyer was inducted into the Top Alcohol Dragster class’s list of champions for her third straight Central Region championship for the 2019 season.
In addition to collecting her championship Wally, jacket, and winnings, Megan was awarded the Pro-Sportsman driver of the year award. This is Megan’s fourth consecutive year for being nominated and winning the prestigious title. Rachel Meyer, Randy’s youngest daughter, also collected her winnings for her 2019 second place finish in the Central region, improving on her third place finish in 2018.
Julie Nataas, driver of the Dot’s Pretzels dragster for Randy Meyer, won the 2019 North Central Regional championship, as well as the Pro-Sportsman driver of the year award for the first time.
The Randy Meyer Racing Team also collected the Pro-Sportsman Crew of the Year award for both Central and North-Central regions for their 2019 success.
Dusty Meyer, Randy's nephew, won the Aeromotive Super Shoot-Out Champion with his Super Comp dragster.
“This weekend we celebrate all of the champions and those who make it possible for them,” said Megan. “Trust is the core value of each team, and I wouldn’t hop into my NGK Spark Plugs dragster if I didn’t trust my family and my guys to put it back together correctly after each pass. We have such a great group of men and women that have been with us for years. They have watched Rachel and I grow up from Junior Dragsters, to Super Comp, and now Top Alcohol Dragster. I am thankful for each and every one of them, and of course I am grateful for my sister and parents who I get to race with.
“It is an honor to be awarded the driver and crew of the year awards again. There are so many great families in both Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car classes that we race against who deserve this award as well.
“On behalf of the Randy Meyer Racing Team, we would like to first thank NGK Spark Plugs for supporting me in the last two years, and they will be back for 2020. Lucas Oil, Weld Wheels, Aeromotive Fuel Systems, Menards, Dot’s Pretzels, Gunk, Technician.Academy, and more join our roster of amazing companies that make our team complete. 2019 was our 40th year of drag racing, and it was the most successful for my career and for our entire team. I know we are going to fly in 2020 and have a great time defending our titles.”

[post_content] => March 18th, 2015 - Kansas-based Top Alcohol Dragster team Randy Meyer Racing traveled south to Gainesville, Florida for the 46th annual NHRA Gatornationals as their first stop on their 2015 tour. With no prior testing before the event, the team had an exceptional weekend to dominate the field and take home the Wally.
Driver and tuner, Randy Meyer, laid down a 5.35 ET at 267 mph for the first qualifying session on Friday at Auto-Plus Raceway in Gainesville, Florida, as his very first pass down the quarter-mile track for the beginning of the year. He followed it up with a 5.29 ET at 271 mph during the second qualifying run, and an improved 5.28 ET at 274 mph for the third and final qualifier, placing him fourth in the 16-car field.
First round eliminations saw Randy overthrow 13th qualifier, Paul Fishburn, with a 5.32 ET at 271 mph Sunday morning, followed by a 5.31 ET at 275 mph to defeat Rich McPhillips in the second round.
A semi-final victory over Jackie Fricke with a 5.30 ET at 275 by Randy placed him in the final round against reigning Top Alcohol Dragster champion Chris Demke. The two launched off the starting line with similar reaction times, and were together down the track until Randy pulled away, and took the event win with an aggressive 5.21 ET at 277 mph to Demke’s 5.33 ET at 276 mph.
“There was an edge and we took it,” said Randy. “We put it all on the line and it paid off. After a long hard winter it was great to be able to see the sunshine, and get off to a good start for the year...“
