Shortly after winning the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Central Regional event, the Lone Star Nationals in Dallas, Texas, Megan Meyer drove her NGK Spark Plugs Top Alcohol Dragster owned by Randy Meyer Racing to the winner’s circle at the NHRA SpringNationals in Houston. This is Megan’s first time winning the SpringNationals, and the Randy Meyer Racing Team’s fourth, for a total of 25 NHRA National event victories.
Megan shocked the field with an outstanding 5.118 ET at 284 mph pass in the first qualifying session; Megan launched hard, kept it hooked up, and hit on all eight cylinders to tie the fourth quickest pass in the history of the class. This is her career quickest pass, and ties for the seventh fastest pass in the history of the class, while Megan still holds the title for the fastest Sportsman female.
The team slowed down to a 5.22 ET in the second session and consistently stayed in the 5.2-second range in eliminations. Megan defeated Buddy Domingue and her teammate Julie Nataas for a final round match up against Troy Coughlin Jr. Megan is now 3-0 against Troy’s with her winning time of 5.23 ET at 279 mph, over Troy’s 5.26 ET at 275 mph.
“What an incredible season we’ve had so far,” said Megan. “We finished off 2018 with a couple of wins and we have been able to carry that momentum into 2019. My team has done an outstanding job of giving me a great race car to drive, and I greatly appreciate my relationship with the guys. We had to thrash to make it to the final round, and although we had to race against Julie, her and her team were very eager to help us out to get the win. It’s tough having to race against your teammate, but I believe it’s better to have us on the same side of the ladder and have one driver guaranteed a spot in the final round than the chances of us both getting beat early on.”
Catch Megan’s third win of the year on Fox Sports 2, Thursday, April 25th at 7pm ET. The SpringNationals will re-air multiple times on FS1 and FS2 between April 27 – May 2.
