The Randy Meyer Racing Team continues to make history at the NHRA’s most prestigious event, the U.S. Nationals, with an exceptional performance that solidifies their dominance in the Top Alcohol Dragster category. This year’s win marks the team’s fourth U.S. Nationals victory, following triumphs in 2019, 2020, and 2022. Hunter Green, driving for Randy Meyer, clinched his third win of the season and extended his lead in the national standings, making it a weekend to remember.

Hunter Green’s path to victory at the 70th annual U.S. Nationals was nothing short of spectacular. Qualifying in the number one position with a blistering 5.234-second pass at 280.25 mph, Hunter showcased the power and precision that has become synonymous with Randy Meyer Racing. This marked the third time this season that Hunter secured the top qualifying spot. His teammate, Julie Nataas, faced early challenges after a motor explosion in the first session but fought back to qualify 11th with a 5.394-second run at 269.13 mph.

In eliminations, both drivers displayed remarkable skill and resilience. Julie Nataas delivered her best performance of the weekend in the first round, defeating Matt Cummings with a 5.253-second pass at 270.37 mph. Hunter Green, meanwhile, launched his Bond-Coat/BOXO USA Tools nitro dragster with a decisive victory over Megan Smith, posting a 0.019-second reaction time and a 5.232-second run at 276.97 mph.

As the competition intensified, Hunter continued to impress, advancing past Jared Dreher with a 5.202-second pass at 278.46 mph, as Dreher struggled with traction issues. Unfortunately, Julie’s weekend for redemption came to an end in the second round, where she encountered difficulties down track, running a 5.342-second pass at 269.29 mph, falling short against Shawn Cowie’s 5.19-second run.

Hunter’s semifinal matchup against Joe Maynard was a highlight of the day, as he clocked the quickest pass of the event, a 5.179-second run at 280.02 mph, narrowly missing his qualifying speed. This secured his spot in the final round, where he faced rookie Angelle Sampey. After Sampey’s car began leaking oil and she was forced to shut off, Hunter staged and completed a full pass of 5.231 seconds at 279.56 mph to claim the victory.

This victory not only marks Hunter Green’s fourth national event win but also the seventh win of the season for Randy Meyer Racing, with an impressive 12 consecutive final-round appearances. The team’s relentless pursuit of excellence continues to pay off, with each member contributing to the seamless operation of their high-performing machine.

Randy Meyer expressed his gratitude for the extra support from Hedinger’s Equipment this weekend, stating, “We’re thrilled to bring home this win at Indy, especially with this track being in my home state and the home of Hedinger’s Equipment. Thank you to the Hedinger’s, my sisters, and brother in law Rich for being here and cheering us on to another win. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.”

Hunter Green was elated with the victory, saying, “I can’t believe I get to call myself a U.S. Nationals champion. Winning Indy stands out above the rest. The car dominated all weekend. Four long days of racing. Number one qualifier. Low ET of the event on race day. Randy is the man, and he’s continuing to prove why he’s the best in the business. This car and team is a well-oiled machine that keeps putting out fast and consistent runs. If we keep cool heads and stay focused, we’re going to be tough to beat.”

Looking ahead, the Randy Meyer Racing Team will head to Earlville, Iowa, this weekend, where drivers Scott and Gary will compete. Both drivers have secured victories this season and are battling for championships in the regional series.
