Rachel Meyer powered the GUNK Top Alcohol Dragster to victory this weekend at Dragway 42, capping off a dominant performance at the IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series. The win marked another milestone in the Meyer family’s racing history, coming 42 years after her father, Randy Meyer, won at the same track en route to his first World Championship under the AHRA banner in 1983.
Rachel and the GUNK team set the pace from the start, claiming the No. 1 qualifying spot with a blistering 3.48-second pass at 230 mph in the 1/8th mile. That momentum carried into eliminations, where Rachel advanced out of the opening round with a clean 3.49-second bye run.
In the final round, Rachel lined up against Rich McPhillips Jr. in a battle of two powerhouse teams. Rachel’s consistent performance proved unbeatable once again, as she lit the scoreboard with a 3.51-second run at 229 mph to Richie’s 3.58 at 226 mph.
“This weekend was special for our entire team,” said Rachel. “To come here, qualify No. 1, and win in front of a great IHRA crowd is amazing, but to do it 42 years after my dad’s victory here makes it even more meaningful. I can’t thank my crew guys and dad enough for giving me a fast hot rod all weekend long. I’m so glad my husband and babies were able to come out and watch. It feels good to finally hoist my first Iron Man trophy, but honestly this one goes to my dad; he deserves it. I’m proud to carry on the Meyer tradition and bring home this win for GUNK and all of our supporters.”
The victory adds to the GUNK dragster’s winning record this season and continues the Meyer team’s reputation for consistency, performance, and family legacy. Randy Meyer Racing and the GUNK Top Alcohol Dragster will return to NHRA competition at this weekend’s St. Louis regional race as the team continues chasing victories to close out the season.
