The Randy Meyer Racing Team made the most of their trip to Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL for last weekend’s NHRA Route 66 Nationals and the prestigious JEGS AllStars events with two final round appearances.
Rachel drove her new dragster built by Copeland Race Cars, backed by Menards and Dot’s Homestyle Pretzels, to a second-place finish in her first appearance of the JEGS AllStars after taking down Megan Meyer in the semi-finals. Rachel fell short by just a few inches to previous winner Joey Severance, crossing the finish line second by .001 of a second. The girls were able to secure the points win for the Central Region, with teammates Kris Hool and Annie Whiteley in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
The team had a small rain delay Saturday night before first round of eliminations of the Route 66 Nationals. Megan qualified second for the race and took down Jared Dreher to move onto second round Sunday morning, but Rachel was on the losing end of her race against Garrett Bateman.
Megan went on to defeat Mitch Myers and Troy Coughlin Jr. with a pair of 5.25 ET passes to be lined up against blown-alcohol rival, Chris Demke, for the final round. The duo left the starting with almost identical reaction times, but Megan’s motor dropped an exhaust valve immediately after the hit of the throttle, leaving her with only seven cylinders while Demke fired on all eight for the win. This is Megan’s 14th final at a NHRA National event, and her third this year.
The Meyer Sisters will return to their home track, Heartland Motorsports Park, for this weekend’s NHRA Heartland Nationals presented by Menards. The girls are prepared to battle it out and bring the Wally back to the Randy Meyer Racing Team.
