Megan Meyer and Camrie Caruso competed in the “Baby Gators” NHRA event of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Eastern Region this past weekend for the Randy Meyer Racing Team. Megan, driving for NGK Spark Plugs, made it to the final round after defeating her teammate to score the team’s second runner-up finish of 2019.

17 dragsters showed up to compete for the 8-car field of the Baby Gators race, where Camrie made her Top Alcohol debut and clinched the no. 2 spot with a 5.30 ET, while Megan sat in the no. 6 spot with a 5.37 ET. Camrie then earned her first competition round win over Rich McPhillips who was disqualified with a red-light start. Megan took out Chris Demke in first round with an improved 5.28 ET. This set the stage for a Randy Meyer Racing Team’s match-up in the semi-final round.

Megan had the starting line advantage but Camrie had the better 60-foot time and the girls were head-to-head down the quarter-mile track. Megan crossed the finish line by 0.002 of a second for the win with a 5.30 ET to Camrie’s 5.25 ET, which was the quickest pass of the event.

“In eliminations, I told myself to just think of it as another time run; run the race track and stay focused on my routine,” Camrie said. “I was so excited when I made it past first round, and although I was bummed that I didn’t make it past second round, the race between Megan and I was awesome! it was super close and I was excited for her because making it to the finals is a big deal!

“I am looking forward to my next race and I can’t wait to gain my first Top Alcohol Dragster Wally. I love driving the A-Fuel car and I am super excited to be with such an awesome team. My biggest accomplishment this weekend was qualifying 2nd at my first race out, and having Randy tell me that he thought I did a good job. I really want to work on my reaction times for my next race.”

Megan went on to face Josh Hart in the final round Saturday night but struggled to make a smooth pass with tire shake at mid-track. She did a quick pedal job but didn’t have room to get the lead over Josh before crossing the finish line with a 5.45 ET to his 5.33 ET.

This is the Randy Meyer Racing Team’s second final round appearance of 2019, out of two races, and the team has won 7 rounds of eliminations thus far between four of their drivers. Megan will make her first National event appearance of the year this weekend at the 50th Annual NHRA GatorNationals held at Gainesville Raceway, and will be joined by her teammate Julie Nataas. Catch the girls compete at the #GatorNats on FS2, Thursday, March 28th 9:00 PM ET and tune into our social channels for live updates from the track.
