Randy Meyer Racing celebrated another historic weekend at Summit Motorsports Park as Matt Cummings drove the GUNK dragster to victory at the 2026 NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, OH, giving the team back-to-back wins at one of the sport’s most prestigious events after McKenna Bold captured the title one year ago.

After qualifying seventh in the highly competitive 16-car Top Alcohol Dragster field with a 5.248-second pass at 272.78 mph, Cummings and the Randy Meyer Racing crew found their stride on race day, turning on four consecutive win lights to earn the coveted diamond Wally trophy.

Cummings opened eliminations against Jackie Fricke, laying down his quickest run of the weekend with a 5.239-second pass at 272.67 mph while Fricke encountered tire smoke. Taking the starting line advantage, Cummings never looked back as the GUNK dragster advanced to the second round.

The quarterfinals paired Cummings against reigning champion Shawn Cowie in a marquee matchup. Cummings was sharp on the tree with a .055 reaction time before posting a 5.251 at 270.37 mph to defeat Cowie’s 5.335-second effort. The victory improved Cummings’ career record to 7-3 against Cowie in national event competition.

In the semifinals, Cummings faced Richie Crampton for the first time in eliminations. Although Crampton left first, Randy Meyer’s tune up methodically reeled him in downtrack, driving around him with a 5.308 at 271.35 mph to Crampton’s 5.376 at 267.64 mph. The win sent Cummings to the 13th final round of his NHRA national event career.

The final round featured Jamie Noonan, but once again Cummings delivered when it mattered most. Leaving with a slight starting line advantage, he powered the GUNK dragster to a 5.283-second pass at 273.39 mph, defeating Noonan’s 5.337 at 268.81 mph to secure his ninth NHRA National Event victory and his first national event win of the 2026 season.

“This one feels really special,” said Cummings. “The Randy Meyer Racing crew gave me an incredible race car all weekend, and we just kept getting the job done one round at a time. To win at Norwalk is always a big deal, and to help this team go back-to-back here makes it even more meaningful. Huge thanks to Randy, the entire crew, GUNK, and all of our partners who make this possible. It’s awesome to get our first national event win of the season, and hopefully it’s the first of many.”

The Norwalk victory gives Randy Meyer Racing back-to-back overall race wins for the 2026 season after Rachel Meyer-Curl captured the team’s most recent IHRA event at the IHRA Triple Crown just one week prior to the NHRA Norwalk Nationals. The team now turns its attention back to the IHRA ranks, where sisters Megan Meyer and Rachel Meyer-Curl will both be behind the wheel at the team’s next event in Milan, MI. With wins in both NHRA and IHRA competition this year, the team carries strong momentum into the heart of the summer racing season and is looking to continue the winning streak and add another trophy to an already successful 2026 campaign.
